Saiyid Dynasty

Saiyid Dynasty
The dynasty established by Khizr Khan (1414-1421) that ruled in the Delhi sultanate for 39 years. It owed its name to Khizr Khan's claim of being a descendant of the Prophet. The last Saiyid ruler, 'Ala al-Din 'Alam Shah (1443-1476), left Delhi voluntarily in 1451 to take up residence at Badaun, where he died in 1476. Delhi was occupied by Bahlul Lodi, who proclaimed himself a sultan in 1451.
